Rocker C and the mercurial bending beats of "Time"

"looking for answers in your head..."

I have a complex relationship with time. I curse it when it seems to plod along so slow and I curse it when it moves much to fast. The notion of time as it relates to our utmost joys and worst failures, as it makes our memories rust or shine can, if you think about it to much, break your brain. Philosophers, artists, scientists want to make time mercurial, they dream of bending it but it is stoic, it is constant, it never fails.

I thought of all this and more listening to the sonic brilliance of "Time" by Rocker C, the musical moniker of Stockholm, Sweden's singer songwriter, music producer Caroline Zetterlund. The track that chases itself on smashed beats, gorgeous distorted synth bass lines, 80's electronic slaps and dreamy running arpeggios provides a fantasy framework for Zetterlund's vocal aesthetic that feels starry eyed, self aware and pop forward.

Of the song, Zetterlund says, matter of factly, that "The song has a lot of under levels in the content of the lyrics but ultimately its about time, and how little we have of it, and how we choose to spend it" which is simply put but deeply felt. Of course, we have a finite number of time on this earth and we don't really know what happens when we escape the flesh and bone vessel we inhabit.

"Time" is the kind of song that you can put on repeat and float in, dance to, revel in. There is a patina of melancholy, strains of nostalgia and the future all at once, shards of hope and second chances. It is so lovely.

Caroline Zetterlund has spent her time well. From Press Notes:

[She was educated at the Music Academy in Örnsköldsvik. She used to perform on clubs in Stockholm with her former rock-band “Caroline” back in the days. Her father was the well known jazz trombone player Kaj Sifvert. She loved to be his guest artist, when they performed at all the jazz clubs and festivals in Stockholm over the years. She is also active in a new music duo called Elmer & Rocker C who have released two singles called ”Tonight” and ”All For One” that you definitely want to check out as well! Prior releases together with Bobby Ljunggren, Ingela “pling” Forsman and for a variety of artists in pop and children’s categories. She has also written songs for 3 artists in a tv show called Fame Factory, organized by Bert Karlsson. She has also released music with former Idol contender Tess Gustavsson.

”I love to write music in different genres and have done so all my life. I plan to continue to do so, to not be placed in a specific category, and to release interesting new music of all kind! A good song is a good song”]
