"places we go / places we stay / somewhere to hide / somewhere to lay / in the garden / they will follow / to the sunlight / somewhere out there..."
I am sure there is a rhyme and reason saturated throughout the starry eyed "Places" by Los Angeles based Livingmore but I can honestly say I don't care either way. During these times of persistent economic angst and political and social hands at each others throats, I just want to bathe in the gorgeous atmospheres of this track. AND it is gorgeous, the potent intersecting guitar lines and chord shapes, the bold drums and bass dance laying down a solid indie rock groove and the lush dynamics. I love when the song is heavy and I love when the song breathes, floating in repose while Alex and Spencer's harmonies lift you up.
"Places" has the kind of beautiful melancholia that might make you cry tears sown from past hard times but contains hopeful nuanced sonics that will help wipe them away too. The shoegaze haze, the glacial melancholia has me thinking of an amalgam of artists like the Cocteau Twins, Stina Nordenstam, Alvvays, Slowdive.
From liner notes:
"Places" will be the first single from Livingmore's 4th full length album "The Garden". It is produced by Jeff Schroeder from The Smashing Pumpkins and recorded at East West Studios in Los Angeles, CA.
"Our friend Emily Retsas, bassist for Phoebe Bridgers and Boygenius also played bass on the album. The song is about trying to be in the moment. Being still and appreciating the tiny and seemingly insignificant moments that we sometimes take for granted" -Spencer and Alex
