"It’s a pastiche! / The Alpha’s on my leash / Pack numbers are down and I’m all like sheesh / Personal freedom and inner peace / All seem just beyond my reach..."
There is a lot to appreciate here from super heavy prog rock drops to East Coats funky new wave-esque shapes like Talking Heads or their offshoot Tom Tom Club. As I eluded to, Heimer's vocal countenance, on "Lone Wolf", does sort of remind me of Isaac Brock around the edges but not in a copy cat sort of way.
From Press notes:
['Lone Wolf' is a meditation on the empowerment and isolation of choosing a new path in one's life. The analogy of the pack animal that goes its own way examines the freedom of autonomy and the captivity of solitude.]
The B-side "Let's Pretend All Groan" is also wonderfully wonky, and I gleefully thought of Pere Ubu and Wire in the same breath.
No-Fi Soul Rebellion pushes against all sorts of sonic envelopes (a great thing, especially these days).
