Shirlé Hale and the alt rock, post punk love song "Another Trip Around The Sun"

"Rise and shine my sleepy head / We gotta leave this bed / And though the thoughts of love last night / Are running through my head / We gotta a lotta day to day to do, beloved..."

Falling into the trippy psychedelic fog of "Another Trip Around The Sun", by L.A. born, Lisbon, Portugal based singer-songwriter multi-instrumentalist, primary bassist Shirlé Hale, and I feel like a am curling up in a beautifully subversive 90's post punk, grunge / indie rock bed. A stalwart indie presence for 30 years fronting indie rock bands, Hale has absorbed the scene and inspired others within it.

From press notes (bracketed):

[After attending Berklee College of Music in the mid-80s with co-busker & dorm-mate Mary Lou Lord she relocated to Baltimore to form the riot grrrl band Womyn of Destruction in the early ‘90s. In 1995, she formed GERTY an indie pop band, with her boyfriend and Liquor Bike frontman David Koslowski. After relocating to Chapel Hill / Durham, NC she formed the shoegaze noise rock band Free Electric State releasing two records before returning back to Baltimore. It was here that she proceeded to work, write and envision what would become her first solo album aptly titled 'The Silver Garden.']

I can tell you that I absolutely adore Hale's vocal countenance that carries self awareness, confidence, a steely gaze and like an amalgam of strong female rockers like Chrissy Hynde (The Pretenders) and Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde), who she reminds me of, Hale carries an air of bad assery.

Of the  "Another Trip Around The Sun", Shirlé Hale shares:

"This song is a love letter to my husband David. The song begins with us in bed, waking up and thinking about all the errands we needed to do that day, but as the song goes on we end up never wanting to leave the bed, especially after realizing that our time on this Earth has become much shorter and we should actually hold onto each other in a beautiful embrace as long as we can."

Top to bottom, this track kills.

But, oh my love
we haven’t much time
to feel this young
So hold your hand in mine
And we will run
Far from this place of a setting sun

So, close your eyes
My sleepy head
Let’s never leave this bed.

"Another Trip Around The Sun" is from Shirlé Hale's full length debut solo album "The Silver Garden" dropping October 27th (2023).
