Swallow The Rat and the massive monolithic opaqueness of "Terra Nullius"

"take a walk behind the frame..."

"Terra Nullius" by Auckland, New Zealand post punk band Swallow the Rat is outrageously massive, colossal, an opaque monolith of sound, noise and fury. I've seen many a punk, alt rock band get on stage with the front man saying, "Ok, let's fuck shit up", well, let me tell you one truth that I know to be true. When Stephen Horsley from Swallow The Rat says, "Let's fuck shit up!", they do, indeed, fuck shit up. Just listening to "Terra Nullius" (from their latest album "South Locust") with the gargantuan bass and guitar attack with gleeful distorting squeaks and squeals, big heavy handed drumming and Horsley's sludge pop vocal countenance, "...day drinking, black walls streak, trail of tears...", and you will be satisfied and fully encased in the dull swagger you are looking for. Like an amalgam of artists like Tropical Fuck Storm, Black Sabbath, Metz and The Men (or thereabouts), the noise might be as important as the distortions of guitar, bass and drums.

Swallow The Rat are Brian Purington on Guitars, Hayden Fritchley  on Drums, Vocals and Stephen Horsley on Bass, Keyboards, Vocals.
