"I've got the morbs..."
Listening to the tip toeing nightmare sound of "Got The Morbs" by Virginia Beach, Virginia based Berries and my first thought was go to the doctor and get some cream for that condition (insert rimshot) but seriously the trance like guitars, mellow but pushed bass and drum beat, sparkling and wonky nuances with rushed vocals that seem to poke you in the chest makes for a spooky atmosphere. When the tom tom drums add heaviness I thought of carnivals and walks through dark neighborhoods you are not all that familiar with.
Berries psych indie rock sound might reference lounge punk and surf rock as well and a couple of times I thought of 90's British post punk too and, for some reason, sonic connections to indie pop rock bands like Space or The Mock Turtles colliding with Animal Collective. Maybe a byproduct of my scattered mind.
LINER NOTES from Berries:
This is our 5th single out of 6 that we’ve released for our upcoming double album "To Autumn (Sun/Moon)"
There are 11 songs on the (sun) side and 11 on the (moon) side. Got The Morbs is on the (moon) album.
The (moon) side of the double LP plunges into the shadowy, moody realms of autumn nights, embracing the darker, mystical side of the season.
This single, ‘Got The Morbs’ touches on feelings of melancholy, desolation and captures the weight of sadness and depression. It has a spooky, haunting quality to it, just in time for the spooky season.
