Deux Visages and the alt indie rock truth and consequences of Tethered (Official Video)

"go! / get a box and fill it up / what's left is dust to rust / I'll erase that inch of you / try to feel something brand new..."

Oddly, or maybe not so oddly, enough while listening to "Tethered" by Miami indie rock band Deux Visages on repeat I thought of artists as diverse as Smashing Pumpkins, Talulah Gosh, 30 Seconds To Mars (circa 2006), Sunflower Bean, Kitten or maybe an amalgam of all these amazing artists. Yeah, I know 30 Seconds To Mars is a stretch but among the rest I mentioned and as a blended sound it makes sense to me. Whomever you sense as sonic touchstones or not, what is super apparent to me is how much vocalist Daphney Hanono, guitarist Jack Chiu, bassist Tony Jouvin, and drummer Antoine Lappin absolutely gel. The synergy between these talented, passionate artists manifests not only in the dense interlocking, overlapping artistry but in how much this song swings, yeah swings as opposed to rock.

Whatever genre and sub-sets of genres that exist, that all important swing, whether nuanced or over the top is what I love to hear, to feel. And I feel it here. I also feel the sheer joy that these guys have playing together and crafting their sonic piece of art. I can definitely feel that joy in spades. From huge bending guitar breaks, rabid drumming, big bass rolls and Daphney Hanono's magnetic croon, the mix of alt pop and proggy indie rock draws you easily in.

Great track.

From Liner Notes:

[Miami-based indie/garage rock band Deux Visages have shared their wildly uninhibited label debut single, “Tethered." "Tethered is a track that follows the journey of a partnership that is tied together but not necessarily good for one another” shared the band. “The song showcases the intensity of the partnership while being unsure of the entire situation. The melody started with Jack presenting the riff to our band and then all of us simultaneously working on it together."]
