Buddy Junior and the artful post punk collisions of "SIN" (the way you sweat)

"the way you sweat like glitter (i feel sick again) / the way you sweat like rain (look at the bruise on my knees)..."

The interweaving sounds / tensions of SIN by San Francisco's noise pop outfit Buddy Junior might overwhelm you but maybe that is the point. The big bottomed beat is not only colliding with an array of layered bass /guitar lines / synths and even what sounds like screams and not only that, the vocal aesthetic is a pastiche of vocals with different levels of distortion. Still, it is compelling and for some reason I thought of The Cure more than once. Maybe it is the bass lines with high plucks or other guitar lines but the Goth pop / post punk tensions are here for me.

From the band:

"this song is my Timbaland song. in a video, i saw him talking about how he starts songs with a beatbox and builds it up from there. that's where i started with this one. it was initially supposed to be a noisy fugazi-influenced shoegaze instrumental (if that makes any sense), but for fun me and Harvey wrote like 10 different verses for this song, and those got chopped up into what you hear here"

If you like artful noise within your indie rock, alt pop, you have it here in spades.

find a way to the garden
(i feel sick again)
find a way to forget
(look at the bruise on my knees)
silver pastures in harvest
(i feel sick again)
with thorn in every step
(you know you know what i mean)

i feel sick again
look at the bruise on my knees
i feel sick again
you know you know what i mean

"Sin" is from Buddy Junior's upcoming Album "RUST", dropping January 31, 2024.
