Extraa and the mind churning, whimsical French twist of "All Good"

"something's cooking / I can breathe again / funny I stopped running and it eased the pain / something's burning / my love for you again / funny I stopped spinning now we hold the lane..."

There is something beautifully surreal, whimsical happening in the sonic swirl of "All Good" by the French indie rock, alt pop twisted Extraa. Beginning with reverse sounds and a absolutely cool blend of droning organ, nimble active bass lines, shuffling drum beat and surprising place guitar notes (love the tonal quality of the guitar that has is effected in such a distinct way) as a female voice like an wide eyed Alice in Wonderland sings, "something's cooking / I can breathe again / funny I stopped running and it eased the pain / something's burning / my love for you again / funny I stopped spinning now we hold the lane...".  A lovely warning, Extraa's arrangement does not feel common or linear really, the unguided path has surprising twists and switch backs and I absolutely love this.

During the first surprise, a prelude to the chorus, a xylophone is introduced ghosting the guitar lines and it is, brilliant as the chorus opens up after the previous dips and weaves, "I can feel alright / I can be ok / I can feel alright / I can be ok / all good / all good / all good / all good aaaah aaah aaah..."

I am not going to ruin the rest by describing it all but suffice it to say in terms of pop composition, "All Good" is a stunning piece of work. It is just the thing I look for. The surreal nature and the cleverly scripted chorus that is the crux of the song, and maybe life itself, serves as a meditation when life becomes frenetic when the whole world is falling apart, "I can feel alright / I can be ok"

I will be delving into more of Extraa and I have the distinct feeling that you will too after hearing "Extraa".

(Felix/Brain Magazine)

Extraa is an indie formula enriched with sweet melodies, rounded bass and smooth rhythms. In their secret laboratory, Alix, Antoine, Thomas and Pedro took the best of swinging sixties London and injected anti-wrinkle right between the eyes. The result of this experiment? Sincere and classy songs that put all the posers in the indie game to shame. Be careful, listening to EXTRAA causes many desirable effects: smile irreparably blocked upwards, urgent desire to live and feeling of hovering above the city, like the Big Lebowski above Los Angeles. We will have warned you. (Felix/Brain Magazine)
