The glistening glimmer of "Fables and Parables" by Ghost Park, the dreamy indie rock project of Brooklyn's Matt Lombardi, begins with beautiful plucked strings that have the tonal width of a Japanese Koto but could be an acoustic guitar. The sound as a framework for Matt's hushed tender vocal lilt while synths float in the background as pristine flutters of sound make for a hypnotically dreamy soundscape. When jammy drumming and bass drop in, it almost feels like a disturbance but when you settle into the groove, the juxtaposition feels like a wonderful musical fusion, an open door from a meditation to beautiful tensions and ramped up sonic allegories.
The tensions might make sense given the meaning of the song shared by Matt:
"this song is an exploration of both a character within a narrative and the narrative itself—what it means to write and create vs. what it means to exist within the stories that compose our own lives"
