Trevor's Lightning Project and the shape shifting psychedelic jam rock of "Birdfeeder"

"she came down and spoke to me..."

The psychedelic bipolarism of "Birdfeeder" by Lexington, Kentucky based Trevor's Lightning Project, featuring Micah (of Super Earth) and Derek Napier on guitar/vocals, Elijah on bass, Jon on keys/synth, Tyler (of Seahags) on drums, and a silent sixth member, "the enigmatic" Trevor, "their muse", is part of the fun, part of the dazzlement. About 20 seconds into "Birdfeeder" and I feel a sort of spy caper aesthetic around the edges and clearly in my mind the latest Mission Impossible incarnation should of used this scintillating track as the main theme, not the tired old theme (no disrespect to Argentine composer Lalo Schifrin). If you doubt me, I have included the trailer below so play "Birdfeeder" and then push play on the trailer with the sound off. I feels just right!

Apart form the staccatto guitar impressions, the song shape shifts throughout, getting heavy, getting dreamy when it wants to. Derek Napier's vocal countenance has a 90's post grunge lightness, ease with psychedelic fanfare. The time sig swaps and eruptions of jammy goodness are many and despite all the musical rushes and switch backs, "Birdfeeder" doesn't feel the slightest big incongruent even when it decides to get all lounge punky, jazz bright and pretty.

The amazing "Birdfeeder" is from Trevor's Lightning Project's debut EP "Miasma"!

Rising up through the ranks of the psychedelic music scene in Lexington, KY, Trevor's Lightning Project features Micah (of Super Earth) and Derek Napier on guitar/vocals, Elijah on bass, Jon on keys/synth, Tyler (of Seahags) on drums, and a silent sixth member, the enigmatic Trevor, their muse. TLP's signature sound, often described as Post-Post-Post Contemporary Modern Art Rock, oscillates between sweet, haunting melodies and brutal fuzzed out chaos. TLP's colorful live performances, through the collaboration with Liquified Light Show, have been known to induce ecstatic experiences within the audience. These events have been reported to include shared hallucination, out-of-body travel, communication with highly sophisticated avian beings, and electricity flowing through the subject's hands, seemingly under their control. While it is not yet fully understood, the running theory on the cause of these mystical occurrences is inextricably tied to the band's origins, and their ultimate goal in creating music. Each performance by TLP is something of a séance, an attempt at summoning the aforementioned Trevor, a time-travelling mystic who has mastered the art of absolute command over the phenomenon we call lightning. Their debut EP 'Miasma' was released November 12th, 2023.
