Coucou Babe and the brand new falling sadness of "Lavenderbees"

"I am one with the lavender bees..."

The ethereal dark beauty of "Lavenderbees" by transatlantic dream-pop duo Coucou Babe (who compose and record between Nashville and Vienna, Austria) probably cannot be described without mentioning Beach House, who, at this point, might as well have a special sub genre named after themselves. While both duo's create sonic universes that are hazy and steeped in a memorical sense of loss and hope, Coucou Babe's first couple of releases might feel more broken. While Beach House most often have propulsions of sound, percolations as such, Coucou Babe's aesthetic might have more to do with falls of sound. Those sounds, languid, even slow motion that somehow feels more like sonic found footage, like a soundscape to Laura Palmer in repose. The sense of ambiance and dirty distortions and compressions that lend to this added depth of melancholia.

But you tell me what you think as I realize that Coucou Babe have their hooks in me. My door is always open.
