Dark Dazey and the heavy metal alt rock gigantism of "Junk"

"at this pace / greazy gears / mechanize our decimation..."

The blistery heavy sound of "Junk" by Los Angeles based psychedelic alt rockers Dark Dazey feels as tightly would as it does punch drunk. Genres being what they are in 2023, there is some cross pollination or maybe cross contamination of heavy metal alt rock and post punk / trash punk filtered through psych rock / slacker rock (maybe) and I dig this. You could argue that cross generational things are happening too from 70's psychedelia to 90's grunge and on and on.

I am especially enamored with the vocal aesthetics here that can feel sort of conscious emo (if that's a thing) and the jagged stabs of sound during the musical breaks that sound so fucking maniacal. Like a collision, amalgam, stew of artists like Faith No More, Primus, Helmet, Butthole Surfers there is so much meaty sonics to chew on, so much.

LINER NOTES:

The song opens with an industrial robotic mantra then drops into an explosion of distortion and fury. The band grinds forward mechanically, seamlessly fusing a smattering of riffs in different time signatures, while the vocalists spit out dystopian lyrics with enough vitriolic percussion to cut through the metallic screeches.
