Max MacLaury and the timeless romance of "Drifting"

"it's passive / passing away..."

Cuddling up to "Drifting", the title track off of San Luis Obispo's singer-songwriter, crooner Max MacLaury's recently released full length strikes a romantic chord, might even ask you to slow down, to smell the proverbial bouquet of flowers, go for a train ride, or even (dare I suggest) to not look at Instagram or Tik Tok for a week or two and see how you feel. MacLaury's sensibility brought to life with like minded talented musicians had me thinking of a blend of things, hints of 40's Americana pop, 50's Western music, 60's musical theater, stuff like that and artists like Guy Clark, Burt Bacharach, Chet Baker's trumpet solos, and the 1934 Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart song, "Blue Moon" as done up by Elvis Presley in 1954. I thought of all those things and more.

MacLaury's folk / jazz, maybe even Cowboy, vocal sound, might make you think you hear a gallop within the cadence in "Drifting" or maybe you do. The sleepy guitar, languid piano and backing vox stir up beautiful sunsets and the faint brushes on the drum skins cast images of sandy bare feet dancing on hardwood floors just yards from that cold beach.

Listening to "Drifting" makes you wonder why certain styles go away, or maybe realize that they never have.

LINER NOTES:

Inspired by old jazz crooners, San Luis Obispo singer-songwriter Max MacLaury is known for his captivating vocals and beautiful, honest songs. Max creates a sound ranging from country to folk americana to indie rock.

He found his musical passion in Ventura County, where he played bass in his high school bands, and began singing and writing songs. After years of playing solo he teamed up with local musicians on the central coast consisting of Chris Stephens on guitar, Ryan House on drums and Mike Jercich on bass.
