"Too many thoughts burning a hole / Damaged wires / Failed connections / Shifting in the wrong direction / Mistakes cut like glass..."
The post punk diatribe of "Map, Territory" by Auckland, New Zealand noise trio REPAIRS is not genteel, not dreamy, not ethereal, not hopeful, not filmic. It is, however, my bitter cup of tea even if all those aforementioned descriptors are wonderful and could also describe a lot of art that I consume. REPAIRS craft a sound that feels exquisitely heavy while playing with dissonance at almost every turn. In the same way that Andy Summers (The Police) had a repellant aversion to major chords, the shapes here (by their nature) push against the comfortable parts of your brain but THOUROULY in an artistic way. I really love guitarists that create interesting shapes (and or tunings) as opposed to adopting the sound tropes of the day. The sound is both noisy, subversive, punchy and obtusely fucking beautiful.
Cracks are showing
I'm sure it's normal
Just ignore it
Mistakes cut like glass
Stuck in this holding pattern
Unheeded warnings
Wasted time
This place will all come crashing down around us
This place will surely fall apart
I'm sure it's normal
Just ignore it
Mistakes cut like glass
Stuck in this holding pattern
Unheeded warnings
Wasted time
This place will all come crashing down around us
This place will surely fall apart
NOW as much as I have been stressing the sideways noisy aspects, the vocals which feel totally non screamy, sort of shoegaze hushed, create a beautiful juxtaposition to the mayhemic musical bed. Kind of like blending metal core with twee but not exactly. Great track.

REPAIRS play high-tempo, loud, emotional music together for fun.
We are a band, but first and foremost we are friends. We are also three people, but only two of us are married to each other.
We all used to perform variations of pitch, tone and rhythm with other people under different names - some too embarrassing to mention, and some that aren’t - but in the interest of fairness, we won’t mention any of them here.
We are situated in a city called Auckland, which is itself situated in a country called New Zealand. This informs the music we make, but nationalism is still stupid. One of the band is Scottish, of which she is very proud in spite of the previous sentence. Our contradictions define us.
The music that the band REPAIRS make is great for fans of: Mourn, Drahla and IDLES.
