Late Guest at the Party and the elegant, ethereal electronic grooves of "In defense of time"

 

"it's too soon to recall / in my mind it seems / like we are still together / anything beyond / never sticks for long / as tension takes over..."

There is a grandness, elegance and etherealness intertwined that graces "In defense of time" by Euro-American Alternative-Dance outfit Late Guest at the Party (LGATP) that transcends genre's and time itself. If I didn't know better, sonically, the funk saturated deep synths and vintage proto punk and new wave aesthetics are pouring out from a time machine set at 1986. For me the soundscapes here are a wonderful amalgam of artists like Peter Gabriel, Godley and Creme, Bronksi Beat and Cocteau Twins. I know this could merely be a function of my age, that I likely am missing some artists from the 2000's and beyond as 'descriptors' but that fertile, iconic electronic pop era is what is bouncing in my head. 

LINER NOTES reveal:

"In defense of time", mastered by Joe Lambert (DFA Rec. & Animal Collective), is about the feelings of regret and reflection about the connections you have with your past romantic relationships. The bridge section describes the feelings after getting a text from and ex about seeing you out in public and not approaching you then.

I do know this, Late Guest at the Party cuts a truly unique sonic swathe. Their universe building, their urban funk meets 90's tinged electronic pop / post punk is their own iteration free from current pop tropes.
