"it brings me peace / to know that I / can always feel your hands when it get's dark..."
The two sided confessional "revenge" by indie rock Texas based ok neighborhood sparked my interest pretty much right away. Maybe it is the wonky guitar lines snaking through a reticent drum beat, maybe the combination of surf punk meets post hardcore meets Vans Warped Tour (R.I.P.) meets emo punk meets experimental rock meets all filtered through 90's atmospheres and current nu jazz dips all at once. I don't know much about ok neighborhood, sometimes I think it is purposeful and sometimes just a byproduct of being a natural artistic introvert.
I do know that "revenge" is from the "cords of resistance" collection of songs that walks a tightrope between an EP and full length. I haven't dove straight into the album / EP but "revenge" is sticking with me. It is one of those kinds of songs that would be fun to play and for us, the listeners, it is one of those tracks that begs us to read between the lines both sonically and lyrically. The vocal aesthetic here doesn't feel highly stylized but just potently real and I like that too.
