Swansun and the distress punk call of "Orca"

"slam my head into the glass / but I can't seem to leave a scratch / guess I'll take another lap / until I break out of this trap..."

The wicked (so wicked) fever dream of "Orca" by psyche garage rockers Swansun is exquisitely heavy, violent and oh so thought provoking. Stylistically, it has a sort of rabid surf punk meets cow punk bullwhip crackery to it, equal parts OSEES bombastic throttling and Pere Ubu sideways 1970's cathode ray static with The Cramps / Dead Kennedys subversions. Thematically it is tragic. I haven't been to zoos (except for wild life rescue zoos) or Sea World type amusement parks for decades. As I got older they just seemed like such fucking sad places. There is nothing worse than seeing a majestic creature like a gorilla or killer whale confined. So the lyrics don't fuck around here. The inner and outer dialog by / with Orca as a trained monkey and the sense that anger and holy retribution is around the corner is all at once disturbing, comforting, funny... all those things in a thought provoking politico punk way.

Great track. Bad ass track.

LINER NOTES:

Swansun was formed in the summer of 2021 by Alan DeCecco (guitar), Evan Ayrer (bass), Ryan Foor (keys) and Evan Pensabene (drums) for a one-time show but immeadiately after their set they knew they would be doing it again. Since then, they have added Nick Bsales (drums), Sidney Riley (drums) and Dave Mercoli (guitar). They are influenced by the classics such as the Beatles, R.E.M., and current artists such as King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Osees. Together these musicians all with wildly different influences come together to create a unique version of modern rock. Stream the debut album "Break the Seal" and stay tuned for the follow up.
