JEEN and the alt rock, post grunge dichotomy of "Pour Your Heart"

"waiting in the dark / come pour your heart..."

The sort of post grunge, sort of stoner rock sway of "Pour Your Heart" is yet another side of what JEEN does so well, builds huge atmospheric washes of sound with many sonic aspects to soak in. This track has absolutely the JEEN subversions but pop prowess underneath, bits of ear worm addictiveness yet dark intimacies that feel like confessionals in a found diary. Tightly wound around an easy midnight drive cadence, slightly lumbering, maybe drunk there is a guitar and bass engine working with the drums pushing. The guitar line hook feels like post grunge, like the end of the 90's but the vocal wash lead by JEEN's evocative low rumbling vox has depressive leaning, sadness and darkness together but outlined by hopeful signs like flashlights in the woods. An amalgam of Concrete Blonde and Mazzy Star, an amalgam of Johnette Napolitano and Hope Sandoval.

"Pour Your Heart" has a wonderfully dense sound. Liner notes reveal: [She joined creative forces once again with long-time collaborator Canadian indie musician and producer Ian Blurton who has taken the role of co-producer on JEEN’s last five albums. “Pour Your Heart” was the first song recorded for the new album "Gold Control", a laid-back track about searching for lights in the dark.]

Love the sound. Would also love to hear it stripped down with an acoustic. I don't know why, maybe I want to better read between the lines.
