Keening and the coldwave glacial moodiness / brilliance of "Disorder"

"don't stand to long / this time / it's disorder..."

The glacial moodiness, chorused bass with hints of flange, throttling potent but bright guitar lines moving up the neck and that evocative 80's / 90/s post punk vocal drawl is artfully evident on the darkly dreamy "Disorder" by UK based Keening and from their new second album "James Francis Diaries" released via Dark Liberation Records out of Norwich, UK. [The song and album take inspiration from the life of James Francis lead singer of the cult band Strange Ones. He disappeared in 1993 from the island of Losse in Scotland where he was recording his debut album.]

"Disorder" by any definition is such an atmospheric potent banger with such a raw live energy as to conjure up found footage of Keening somehow thrashing at the Roxy (in Covent Garden) in 1989. I am feeling the musical nucleic acid of artists like Asylum Party, Clan Of Xymox, For Against and others on the tip of my tongue.

LINER NOTES:

[In 2022, James’ tapes and diaries were given by James’ parents to the band Keening. Keening had discovered and fallen in love with the Strange Ones' records and learned about James’ disappearance. The original demos themselves, even with digital restoration are unlistenable as James distorted the recordings and overdubbed them with found sounds from the island. Instead of replicating the songs, Keening decided to write their own music inspired by James’ diary, the mystery surrounding his disappearance, his lyrics, and the island of Losse. James’ edited diary is included here for interest and with the permission of his family.]
