The Dog's Body and the power and pain of "Gravity Bong"

"and I'll try to say I love you / when you're on my mind..."

The guitar shapes, extreme bends of "Gravity Bong" by Cookeville, Tennessee's The Dog's Body not only has some prerequisite weirdness for me but the artful lead guitar shapes penetrated my brain and reminded me of an iconic, under-represented, under loved UK band and, well, it amped up my being, spiked gleeful chemical in my brain. The band in question is the amazing Be Bop Deluxe (circa 1976) fronted by Bill Nelson and I sense the same kind of proto-art rock, psychedelic blues rock / space rock thing happening (maybe with a side of Hüsker Dü). There are obvious differences of course too and, for me, The Dog's Body might also have a decidedly 90's kind of blend of stoner rock meets emo meets Americana rock. I mean, for whatever reason, I thought of an amalgam of Weezer, Cracker, Sabadoh just based on "Gravity Bong" alone.

Anyway, the sound here is glorious, wonky, powerful and a little pained too. I can relate to the hole in the drywall and the out of place ratchet sockets.

From the artists:

[An Americana tinged rocker with some country flavor. A look at young adulthood into adult habits and our place in the cosmos when we imbibe and open our minds. A reminiscence and free association of the pieces and history who make up who we are and our own fragility. A tongue and cheek take on the human condition.]
