Fears and the dark and light dreams of "cliff" (Official Video)

The crystalline complexities, beauty and melancholia in tow of "cliff" by Fears, the solo project of Dublin-born , London-based, musician and producer Constance Keane, move in a sort of trance. The machine beats, the percolating electric guitar shapes, plucked porcelain bright Harp strings (courtesy of collaborative Poland bred, London based artist Aga Ujma) and ambient drawn electronic hushes of sound create a dark and light dreamscape perfect for Keane's vocal countenance that feels like a dream itself, a veiled haunting of loss, longing, melancholia and survival (maybe in the voids of life) and as LINER NOTES describe "Fears invites the listener into an ethereal journey, blurring the boundaries between music and visual art".

I love the sonics here, in terms of less is more and I appreciate the intimacy of the vocal performance. So often, these days, as much as I love shoegaze I hear artists that flood so much of their art in a thick haze that push the vocals so far back as to obscure them. AND I love to hear the lyrical content, the heart of the matter, the poetic license of the artist's emotions. Keane produces in such a way as to have a lovely ethereal fog of sound but not enough to obscure much at all.

On the song and video Fears' Constance Keane says, "I’ve known Aga Ujma for a few years and always knew I wanted her on a Fears song. She’s one of my favorite artists in the world, to be honest. 'cliff' is about leaving something before you know it’s going to completely implode. I think it’s quite rare to be able actually to pull it off and have it work out, and thankfully this time it did. I wrote this in December 2022 about a really wonderful person who deserves the best."
