Chorduroy and the full throttle psych rock surf punk invasion of "Alien Mask" (Official Video)

"Unless my eyes deceive me / This house is crumbling down / Took a siesta- Drank all the tea / Watched the walls crash down..."

The absolute full throttling thrasher psych rock surf punk (as I like to call it) of "Alien Mask" by San Diego's surf punk quartet Chorduroy is as utterly mosh worth and sonically driving as you want it to be. This is the kind of sound that you can totally get lost in, escape in, thrive in, swim in, as an invigorating sonic adrenaline filled haze. A big swirling connective tissue, a communal one where anyone within the monstrous sound is accepted and feeling the damn same thing.

As the first single off of Chorduroy's upcoming album "Voice of Reason", you may have heard some of the surf barraling signatures as this track was recorded and produced by psych garage rock legend Eric Bauer (Ty Segall, Oh Sees, Meatbodies) at his studio in LA and, honestly, you can hear some of the Dwyer-esque guitar bends and massive charges. I do think Chorduroy might employ some of the classic psych rockisms out there, in the same way that any blues player worth their salt will incorporate essential B.B. king licks, but Chorduray is doing their own iteration. I think leaning on the stomping party psych sound as opposed to some of the forays into smashed metal doom-esque or glam tinges 60's psych rock.

Anyway, Chorduroy's sound here washes over you in a life affirming way, in a way that feels more about survivorship ultimately, oh and having fucking fun.

'I'm gonna wear my alien mask today
Ignore the impending doom
Struggle to play this elaborate game
Cause' I don't wanna lose

Oooh Oooh Oooh
Accidentally split your mind in too
Oooh Oooh Oooh
We'll never make it- Out alive "

Produced and engineered by Eric “King Riff” Bauer (Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, Meatbodies), Chorduroy’s upcoming debut album “Voice of Reason” is a crazy trip through desert and space. It’s an energetic mix of the band’s influences- which include psychedelic garage rock, punk, and a dash of stoner metal.

Formed in 2019, Chorduroy’s sound has evolved greatly over the last few years- starting with the classic San Diego influenced surf punk sound. Lots of poppy hooks and a youthful attitude. With a couple lineup changes, they grew louder and more ambitious. They now have the final product and are ready to hit the road.
