Soft Loft and the rustic emotional wanderlust of "The Party And The Mess"

The rustic, pervasively starry eyed emotional wanderlust of "The Party And The Mess" by Soft Loft, the project name of Swiss singer-songwriter Jorina Stamm with her band, feels tattered like an old Polaroid full of scratches, pain, and hope. I love the spiral and sonic ascensions of hope too that start simply with Stamm's vulnerable vocal countenance and acoustic guitar propulsions eventually exploding with big sounds in the way a dream might wash out in light and blind you in the end.

The champagne and the dress
The party and the mess
I’ll let you go to somewhere I don’t know
You waited just to follow slow

Jorina Stamm's voice bathed in melancholy trembles and whistles touches you at times like a friend's hug and at other times like a loved one's gut punch. The poetry she give us is just vague enough to feel curious, to want us to somehow read between the lines but their are also moments, strands of the kind of counterpoints, the kind of truths that feel instantly relatable too. And while this song feels like the stuff of a relationship in turmoil, in the end, "The Party And The Mess", feels (to me) like a dioramic metaphor for life with all it's beauty and unfettered muck too, it is the unknown ugliness of spirit and the unbelievable kindness that sometimes feels like a coin flip away.

I never knew the course
Is this life with its force
The stories I got told and
The big mouth you were born

"The Party And The Mess" is the title track off Soft Loft's latest 12 track album.

Soft Loft is a safe haven, an attitude, a way of life. It’s where the broken and the imperfect are embraced and celebrated. Soft Loft is non-hierarchical. Soft Loft is where reality is transmuted into dreams and dreams back into reality. Judgment is suspended here. Because vulnerability is the gateway to connection. Anything goes, as long as it’s heartfelt and it flows. Soft Loft is a collective of musicians dedicated to creating safe spaces using sound.
