The Midland Affair and the heavy melancholia and cathartic wail of "Home"

"this is my home / these are my walls / I can't escape..."

Burning on prickly hot electric guitar notes, anchored to the ground with a stoic beat begins the dark compelling "Home" by 3 piece Texas based alt rock The Midland Affair. Soon enough the somber, even pained vocals drop down against what feels like a dour cello or phased bass, "this is my home / these are my walls / I can't escape...", and as sprite open electric guitar chord sparkle injected faint specks of hope, the gloomy powerful walls are erected.

The dirty bottom heavy bass and tumbling drums create a crescendo but the darkness persists. A great evocative sound, bits of alt rock and other bits of what feels like noisy post grunge and post punk. Feeling a cross generational, cross genre'd amalgam of artists like Tonic, Constantines, Built To Spill in terms of some sonics but mostly in the artful emotionalism they all share.

The Midland Affair just formed last year and their debut album, "Genesis" will drop this summer.
