Dress Warm and the emotional distillation, the love / loss ratio of "Backyard"

"you've been barely / on my mind / all the time..."

The filmic emotional tones of "Backyard" from Austin - Texas based Dress Warm move from lo-fi to high definition, from scratchy black and white to hyper realistic color, all the while grounded in feeling lost in loss while healing spiritually and physically. Sonically rich in terms of the musical complexities moving from raw to sophisticated shapes while always fractions away from melancholia, the poised indie rock shapeshifts with the introductions of orchestral tones. Against the indie rock atmospheres, there is a sense of post punk and bending jazz too. All these emotional highs and lows as a sometimes leaning framework for Brandon Price's vocal countenance that feels as natural as a serious phone conversation full of soul searching creates an oppositional tension that I love.

LINER NOTES:

[Ending a relationship and breaking an arm from work-related injuries isn’t exactly the best way to start the year, yet that’s how Dress Warm’s primary songwriter, Brandon Price found himself. Sidetracked from being able to play and express himself through his only outlet, Price was left ruminating and contemplating while his bandmates and collaborators Logan Krupovage and Trevor Stovall, hit the road to run sound and tour manage other bands. What came from this period of isolation is "Amador", the latest EP from Austin, TX recording project Dress Warm. "Amador" highlights the band’s signature jangly sound while pushing the rawness of the band’s songwriting into a more accessible and painful direction. "Amador" is 5 years worth of living wrapped up into 9 minutes of music.]

An indie bedroom pop trio outfit based out of Austin, TX.

Dress Warm looks to take internal feelings to the outside world. The group, founded from the instrumental division of Hall Johnson, looks to continue its deep dive into experimenting with home recordings and songwriting as Dress Warm grows as a project. Blending the upbeat harmony frequencies that are reminiscent of Good Morning and the singer-songwriter lo-fi style of Tyler Burkhart, Dress Warm is about finding yourself in your ‘alternate lit’ bedroom at 4 AM and for the sunset drives after a long day at the public pool.
