variety and the indie rock mobbing of "Plover"

"On weekends / I plow(fall) unto you / In sequence / Barely operate / I’m reaching / With desire in my paw / They’re cawing / Barely listening..."

The raw potent energy of "Plover" by Texas one to four piece indie rock outfit variety instantly feels like the erstwhile 80's blasty new wave / power pop of artists like Devo, like The Vapors (Squeeze, Elvis Costello, XTC) that sort of thing and the fact that the track is about birds (as opposed to girls or heroin addiction) is a curious plus. I also thought of more contemporary artists, maybe an amalgam of Bloc Party, Squid, Viet Cong.

"I get lost in that grin when they’re flocking
All the plovers are stressed cuz its stalking
Fly for miles, be harassed by some barking
I hope this program rubs off on these chumps"

The brainchild of singer-songwriter, cruncher Rhys Woodruff, the banging raw slap to the drums, the full throttle guitar jamminess, the guitar bends and Rhys sort of aloof punk vocal stance is the kind of song you want to hear in a sweaty venue with black walls and ceiling.

variety whether one or four (Rhys, Zach, Jordan, & Nick) is keeping it real.

LINER NOTES:

[A song about desire.

The presence of people unleashing pets turned predators pursue the piping plovers.

It's about a resident "Winter Texan". An homage to ornithology and how different desires involving the birds from say, a dog, a fishermen, or a conservationist are divorced from one another in intention.]
