"documentary girl (she's really really smart) / documentary girl (she's got a good heart) / documentary girl (she's headed to Mexico for awhile)..."
The wanderlustful busker Mexicana folk punk percolations of "Documentary Girl", by North Carolina bred, L.A. based filmmaker and musician Ben Joyner, not only feels wonderfully rustic but nostalgic too, for me seeded in 70's / 80's indie 16mm shades with appropriate lightning scratches. I love the found footage aesthetic and like an amalgam of early Velvet Underground and early Cracker, the sound sets somewhere between the soundtrack fodder of early Wes Anderson and early Coen Brothers. Yes, I have nearly rolled over my quota of the word "early" but sometimes that kind of distinction is important.
"I wrote this song about a girl I liked who made documentaries after she told me she was moving to Mexico for a while" - Ben
