"I always love the water / Sinking further down I tried too hard / To be a landgirl / It's so dry here, I don't fit into this world..."
The ebullient / heavy sonic indie rock spectrum of "Landgirl" by Bloomington, Indiana's six-piece Six Foot Blonde and from their debut album "Ask Me How I Am", cuts in a million directions and I think that is why I love it so much. In some ways it feels seeded by the 80's /90's indie atmospheres of artists like The Cardigans, 10,000 Maniacs, The Go Go's, a sound the feels potently connected to youthful angst but in a cool, fun way but the musical breaks hit hard, super punchy, for me folding in the kind of post punk saturated progressively drawn edges of artists like Bloc Party or The Twilight Sad. I super love the potency and complex emotional pulls here and a lot of the pull has to do with lead vocalist Julia Rusyniak's evocative pop / rock prowess. She knows how to twist and turn her voice like she does her magnetic melodies in artful ways that play to those who like different genres.
"Landgirl", yeah I love the jam, love the spiraling fun and tinges of melancholy, and the music that gets more tightly wound the longer the song goes on. Awesome.

Six Foot Blonde’s music feels equally sincere as it does fun. Featuring the addictive melodies of lead vocalist Julia Rusyniak, their songs tell stories of nostalgia, love, reflection, and loss. The band’s music fuses slide guitar, synth, and three-part harmony to create a beautifully intimate sound brimming with energy. Now finished with their first national tour, the six-piece band from Bloomington, IN has gone from playing college bars to filling venues throughout the midwest and east coast. Their debut album, “Ask Me How I Am,” is out now.
