Owl Bait and the cataclysmic emotional spirals and grateful revelations of "Soft White"

"What's been bringing you down / Is it something from the clouds / Or is it yourself / Lost in your fairytale..."

The jagged cataclysmic emotional spirals and grateful revelations of "Soft White" by the enigmatic Owl Bait tugs at me as I marvel at the raw indie propulsions that remind me of late 70's proto punk, 80's art punk, 90's folk cored rock, and 2000's garden punk all kind of scrambled together. I mean I thought of an amalgam of Human Sexual Response, Talking Heads, Meat Puppets, Violent Femmes, Modest Mouse over the many times I have listened to "Soft White" and also perused some of  Owl Baits other tracks. Anytime a music writer like myself tries to interpret or describe an indie band, I think he / she has a tendency to pull from music that has been most influential or formative in that critical 18 year old to 34 year old period. Just my theory and I am sticking to it (smile), so my window, my view will be much different than yours. In any event

The aforementioned enigmatic Owl Bait shares this:

"This is the first single for our debut album, "Cowboy Marmot". This song was inspired by a homeless man and the thoughts I had walking by him."

The chorus sticks to my brain as does the vocal melody which is potently artful:

"I tend to turn my eyes
From the cruel and crooked world
Avert my steady stride
I'm sorry I don't have the time
But the man on the ground
Reminds me
I've always had what I've needed"

In the end, "Soft White" feels totally ID, subversive and abstract, played with wild abandon and pushed with a unique vocal character. I love all those things about it.

Owl Bait, genre agnostic, alt rock, post punk, abstract sonics, alt pop, indie rock, garden punk, art punk, debut album, "Cowboy Marmot", grateful revelations of "Soft White",
