"Everyone's the same / In different ways / Silence is nice / When it's right there in front of you / Take it away / A future change / Lets see how it goes / Nothing stays the same..."
The artful mayhemic crush of "Everyone", by Toronto, Ontario Canada's shoegaze-inspired experimentalists Mount Mural, has a lot of different atmospheric rushes to course through your veins. The heady mix is so exquisitely compelling, from the throttling post punk leans reminiscent of 80's artists like Joy Division or A Certain Ratio, the vocal softness of a band like Silversun Pickups and the tightly wound progressive muscularity of artists like Porcupine Tree or Osi. From the onset, the heaviness is gloriously artful and, quite frankly, massive. The interconnectedness of the bass, drums dance against pearly guitars is so very expressive and when things go a bit lighter, there is a sense of release of breathing and absorbing all that happened before. This is the cycle, the pattern for a bit of bigger than big and vice versa. The bridge / musical break dazzles and I think at that moment I started feeling the pummeling bass more than ever. From top to bottom, from surface splashes to it's absolute depth, "Everyone", is a special piece of work. It kills, it jams with ferocity and sophistication.
LYRICS
In different ways
Silence is nice
When it's right there in front of you
Take it away
A future change
Lets see how it goes
Nothing stays the same
Look what I've
Walked into
I thought that I'd
Want to leave
Everything
I thought might be
Hasn't changed anyways
Change is in waves
It's never too late
How far we will go
The ship won't stay
Look what I've
Walked into
I thought that I'd
Want to leave
Everything
I thought might be
Hasn't changed anyways
