Wide Orbit and the folk hearted ramble and starry eyed indie rock crush of "Full of Feathers"

"You know you've got the greatest handwriting around / The way you buy big packs of pens / You ought to give me a lesson / I've sure got plenty of time / I'll give you my full confession..."

The folk hearted ramble and starry eyed indie rock crush of "Full of Feathers", by Chicago's Wide Orbit, is punchy sweet and full of nervous gut punches we have all felt. For me, I am feeling some folk rock retro tones like 70's stoner bands (Stealers Wheel comes to mind) or current artists like Kevin Morby (Woods and The Babies) or White Fence who pull from 70's folk / psychedelia. Whomever Wide Orbit pulls from, their distillation of folk rock, psychedelic indie rock and surfy indie pop or surf punk sits well with me. There is this very cool recurring bass run in "Full of Feathers" that feels classic as well and took my mind to a cool stomping ditty, "Judy In Disguise" (With Glasses) by John Fred & His Playboy Band (1967), pretty much a one hit wonder.

The sense I get, from crushing on pretty much a stranger as in shopkeeper, waitress, barista, whatever and visiting often to get that rush or maybe even to build a relationship is something we have all felt especially in those youthful years and I love this as fodder for a song. The poetic lyrics capture that feeling perfectly.

I look forward to delving into more by Wide Orbit.

LYRICS

You know you've got the greatest handwriting around
The way you buy big packs of pens
You ought to give me a lesson
I've sure got plenty of time
I'll give you my full confession
confession

It makes me nervous
when you're waiting on me
to try to explain the purpose
for me acting like a gift horse
on all fours

Two eyes like golf balls shoot for miles
You could see me in the black paint
You could see me in darkness
or a nice brown sweater
When I'm next to you
When I'm next to you
God replaces my guts
with feathers

It makes me nervous
when you're waiting on me
to try to explain the purpose
for me acting like a gift horse
on all fours

I'm all full of feathers
I'm all full of feathers
I'm all full of feathers
I'm all full of feathers
I'm all full of feathers
