"Fuel the engine / An extension to / Do the things that I don't want you to / Accelerator / To the shiver through / A vermilion shape of something new..."
The glossy unknown / opaque future of "Unfamiliar", by Sydney Australia based abstract indie / alternative trio The Electorate, grabs you might the shirt collar and gently pulls you into dark places. Riding on barreling bass lines, dense and telling, against tubular tactile guitar strikes and expressively cool and tribal drum beats as a framework for a handsome vocal countenance, at once indie rock-esque but with a pop prowess too. The Electorate is Eliot Fish on bass, Nick Kennedy on drums and Josh Morris on guitar and since there is no one lead singer, I don't know who is vocalizing but I appreciate, love the vocal sound that lies somewhere less dramatic than Matt Bellamy and more dramatic than Tom Chaplin with a truly commercial artfulness.
"Unfamiliar" is from the band's sophomore album "By Design" out on Love As Fiction Records.
LYRICS
Fuel the engine
An extension to
Do the things that I don't want you to
Accelerator
To the shiver through
A vermilion shape of something new
Now look me in the eye
'cause I don't mind, I don't mind, I don't mind
Did you mention
The intention to
Do those things that I don't want you to
Accelerator, to the fever and...
A shock that seems to go right through
Now look me in the eye
'cause I don't mind
Unfamiliar sigh, I don't mind
A familiar sign, I don't mind
An extension to
Do the things that I don't want you to
Accelerator
To the shiver through
A vermilion shape of something new
Now look me in the eye
'cause I don't mind, I don't mind, I don't mind
Did you mention
The intention to
Do those things that I don't want you to
Accelerator, to the fever and...
A shock that seems to go right through
Now look me in the eye
'cause I don't mind
Unfamiliar sigh, I don't mind
A familiar sign, I don't mind
