MINK and the emotional effervescence and romantic melancholia of "The Clouds Today"

photo by Orhan Olgar // "Wake up lightly / Go let the light in / I’m right beside you still / Let’s go driving / I know a place / No one will find us there..."

The emotional effervescence and romantic melancholia of "The Clouds Today", by Berlin's indie rock / dance pop outfit MINK, collide in magical ways. The swelling synths, runaway beat and wistful vocal persona both stand apart and come together revealing a sonic indie film in my head. I am loving the vast sound of it all, the punches, the pathos and the emotionality that vocalist Stephan Krollmann brings to it all. I am feeling connections to artists / bands like Future Islands, Broken Bells, Nation Of Language. Great stuff, great expressions of the human condition.

"Just like the rain // So far away // Way up in the clouds today // We will fall back down again // Just not today"

LINER NOTES (excerpts, bracketed):

[MINK emerged from Berlin's vibrant music scene, blending retro charm with a modern allure, creating danceable yet profound music. Their music feels like walking home after a long night out, somewhere in between euphoria and melancholia. Their debut EP 'Plune' received acclaim, leading to live appearances on shows like 'radioeins Sommergarten' and 'Fritz Unsigned.' In 2021, they made their international debut in Poland and played their first sold-out show in Berlin. February 2022 marked a milestone with the release of their second EP 'Youth,' solidifying their presence in Berlin's indie underground. They graced stages like Meeresrausch Festival and Wilde Möhre Festival, opened up for acts like The Slow Show, and toured with artists like SIND and Tristan Brusch. 2023, MINK embarked on a tour across Europe, making their debut in Amsterdam and opening for Tolstoys in Bratislava, Slovakia. Recently, MINK took to the stars, playing a sold-out show at the Berlin planetarium. They released three new singles and opened up Vistas and Kakkmaddafakka. In 2024 MINK played their first headline show in Vienna, AT and performed at the Sharpe Festival in Bratislava, SK. In July 2024 they played the headline show to a full house at FluxFM Bergfest at FluxBau, Berlin.]
