Washing Machina and the chunky punk guitar attacks and exuberant mischief of "Debbie Lost Her Mind" (Official Video)

"she was out of her mind / while we were hanging around..."

The chunky punk guitar attacks and exuberant mischief of "Debbie Lost Her Mind", by Stockholm's indie rock fire starters Washing Machina via Epicuro Records, is perfectly poised to crash through todays derivate pop persuasions with an earnest indie hammer of sound. The magnetic dense propulsive guitar lines, the drummers runaway cadence (love the pronounced kick drum work), the chunky bass notes hanging in mid-air, and the girl / boy vocals feel wonderfully adjacent to Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Breeders, Chelsea Light Moving. I am thoroughly digging Washing Machina's power punching sound.

LINER NOTES (excerpted / bracketed):

[The music video, directed by Mark Pettersson, turns the song’s frenetic spirit into a visual riot — a whirlwind of surreal party scenes, offbeat characters, and a touch of cinematic mayhem. It’s as unpredictable and captivating as the song itself.]

[“Everyone knows a Debbie,” says Karl Nordahl, vocalist and guitarist of Washing Machina. “She’s the one who pushes the night past its limits, who flips the switch from fun to madness in a heartbeat. This song is about that energy — the thrill, the chaos, and the mess it leaves behind.”]

Formed in Stockholm in the spring of 2021, Washing Machina is quickly establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Their music is a captivating collision of infectious pop sensibilities and adventurous, avant-garde guitar textures. While drawing inspiration from iconic acts like Foo Fighters, Sonic Youth, The Breeders, Pavement, and Dinosaur Jr., Washing Machina forges a sound that is undeniably their own. The band's early EPs, Perfect Misfits and Last Bag on the Belt, garnered critical acclaim and set the stage for their ambitious debut album, The Spontaneous Splendid. Released on Lövely Records on March 1st, The Spontaneous Splendid showcases Washing Machina's fearless creativity and marks a significant evolution in their sonic landscape. With a reputation for delivering electrifying performances, Washing Machina has become a sought-after live act, opening for bands like Bdrmm and bringing their high-energy show to festivals such as Fools Gold.
