"I wasn’t installed with care / Can’t bring me anywhere // Before my joints come all a-loose // Some duct tape should do the trick / This is how you stay sick // Hope you’re not doing the dishes soon"
The purely saturated American punk classicalism of "It's Gonna Burst" by Richmond, Virginia's George (great name for a band or dog), and from their full length "Do You Want to Go...Swimming?", is so beautifully raw and steeped in an early 80's vibe (to me) that it could be a step sister to "You Don't Know What You've Got" from Joan Jett and the Blackhearts 1980 debut album, although I find the lyrics here so much creative, interesting, punk comical and wildly engaging. This song sounds so retro that it feels like it would be perfectly situated in one of my favorite soundtracks ever, namely the "Up the Academy" (1980) Soundtrack that features bands like Blondie (X Offender), Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers (Road Runner), Cheeks (Coquette), Blow Up (Beat the Devil) etc, etc.
Great stuff. All players sound perfect for this sound and Katie Condon vocal snarl is firing on all cylinders.
By the way, I know nothing about George as they seem to keep all details close to their collective vest. That' ok. Give them and their album a listen.
