"The sated yellow light licks right across the cobbled floor / Reaches, touches startles my white feet /A muted clack behind my back, is urging me: move on..."
The stately dreaminess and gentle persuasions of "I'll Be Alright" by Swedish independent composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist Klas Jonsson, and the title track of his recently released 2025 EP, moves like a lovely slow dance, genuine in it's ever moving forward declarations. Jonsson is playing all instruments and the vibe here hits me in two ways, one way feels like a singing moment from a stage play and the other is the kind of purity of a song on The Muppets as sung by Kermit the Frog or old Carpenters songs. I know this might be a funny comparison but I love the Kermit songs, the wonderment and effortless reaching out to the youthful acceptance that kids have before some of their parents ruin that openness as they tarnish them with their prejudices is so compelling and I also love the Carpenters' similarly, genuinely sweet, passionate songwriting style that most of the time felt adjacent to the musical theater spectrum.
I am also, a kind of sucker for the electric piano sound here, the simple sort of sonic affirmations and Jonsson's gentle singing style enhanced by his Swedish accent. Also entranced by the depth of lyrical writing by Charlotta Frändberg & Klas Jonsson that feels as poetic as they feel conversational.

LYRICS
The sated yellow light licks right across the cobbled floorReaches, touches startles my white feet
A muted clack behind my back, is urging me: move on
Each step, each stone, each cracked zone, intimately known
The well worn wooden table with its tangled, patterned cloth
Is now in view as is the skew armchair
I walk across, I seat myself, I fill the waiting space
To see the world from here again once more.
I’ll be alright - it’s just a matter of time
I’ll be alright - It’s just a matter of faith
I’ll be alright - It’s just a matter of me
I’m ok. Doing fine. I’ll be alright
From where I sit the room is lit, this moment, all is clear
The dust is dancing gilded in mid air
Your ragged orange jumper over there across a chair
Is evidently far beyond repair
On the mantelpiece there is one photo left behind.
Somebody tipped it over - not kind.
I’ll be alright - it’s just a matter of time
I’ll be alright - It’s just a matter of faith
I’ll be alright - It’s just a matter of me
I’m ok. Doing fine. I’ll be alright
It was here, but now we’re gone.
I should make my way.
Treading ever, oh, so softly through this day
And
I’ll be alright - it’s just a matter of time
I’ll be alright - It’s just a matter of faith
I’ll be alright - It’s just a matter of me
I’m ok. Doing fine.
I’ll be alright - it’s just a matter of time
I’ll be alright - It’s just a matter of faith
I’ll be alright - It’s just a matter of me
I’m ok. Doing fine. I’ll be alright
