The exuberant beauty and blessings of "There Goes My Fairytale" by They Owe Us, the artist project of Swedish multi-instrumentalist and producer Kristoffer Ragnstam, is so dense in it's songwriting embrace, tightly wound musicality and poetic imagery. There is something so special here that is hard to define but the scope of this track feels born out of 80's indie pop, new wave / 90's abstract indie rock and 2000's sort of kitchensink indie rock - emo like an amalgamic crush of Elvis Costello, Pavement and Los Campesinos! (or something like that). I am also really loving the mellow sort of folk saturated verses counterpoised by the punchy (and precisely erratic sounding) big chorus, love the ying / yangian thing happening here and especially (ESPECIALLY) loving Ragnstam's vocal countenance full of emotional punches and vulnerability at the very same time.

They Owe Us, the artist project of Swedish musician and producer Kristoffer Ragnstam, is rooted in the creative process itself: writing, recording, and searching through the quiet moments between chaos and clarity from a small studio on Sweden's west coast.
Over the past two decades in the alternative music scene, that curiosity has led him into unexpected territory. He's headlined his own tours, shared stages with Debbie Harry, Mumford & Sons, and Zander Hawley, and most recently toured with kanekoayano.
His work has reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts in Japan and landed in the Top 30 of U.S. college radio (NACC) with All on RED, proof that quieter voices can travel just as far.
This autumn, Ragnstam returns with a new album, Katzengold, released September 25, 2026. The record finds him chasing, intervening, drifting, and slipping into chaos, only to emerge on the other side, bruised, curious, and mostly intact.
