JASON AARON SCOTT and the slinky organica / wistful punk blues swings of "Weapon Made of Wood" (Official Video)

"I've got a weapon / made out of wood / she says protection's always good / the thing to carry when you're heading to war / I guess it matters what you're fighting for..."

The slinky organica / wistful punk blues swings of "Weapon Made of Wood", by Los Angeles singer songwriter Jason Aaron Scott, is so quirky and raw that it will likely pull you within it's orbit instantly. It may be the sprite sort of classic feel as if it is found footage from 60's music hall inspired delicious cuts of Brit pop / psychedelic pop fused and artfully blended with 70's blunt forced pop quirk sophistications of a Harry Nilsson (or Lennon and Nilsson). Also feeling Lou Reed and Elvis Costello and for some reason, (go with me on this one) Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind. I know comparative thoughts or thinking of "adjacent artists" feels all over the place. Truth be told, the more unique an artist is, the harder it is to describe their sound or vibe and Jason Aaron Scott is a different bird as they say (ultimately a great thing).

I am loving the rolling organ in the background, the easy campfire acoustic guitar strums, the sort of pop western noir lead guitar melodies and move the song but mostly Scott's vocal countenance that so much character that some could feel like it is "put on" even though I don't think that at all. Like David Johansen from the New York Dolls was not a put on either, I am sure Jason Aaron Scott is the real deal as well.

"Weapon Made of Wood" also conjures up the rebellious nature of Woody Guthrie, the idea that protest folk or rock is a palpable rusty nail in the foot of dictators, while feeling cheeky too, metamorphosing into double or triple entendre (??). Either way, anyway this wily sort of busker punk track works so, so well.

The equally abstract, cool indie Official Video for "Weapon Made of Wood" stars Yvonne Zima as directed by Vanessa Zima.

LYRICS

I've got a weapon / made out of wood
she says protection's always good
the thing to carry when you're heading to war
I guess it matters what you're fighting for

all it needs is a couple of strings
all she want's is someone who sings
heart's flat like a note that's off
I tried to sing but all I did was cough like

cooka cooka I'm sick in love
cooka cooka I'm a fiend on a drug
getting high off the pain
words fail what the song explains

I've got a weapon made out of love
she says protection's always a must
don't be a victim of your own advice
guess it matters what she sacrifice

(western noir guitar lead)

days are lazy / nights are long
ain't it crazy how the time has gone
I lost the only love I know
relationships either sink or float
plenty more fish in the sea
what the fisherman said to me

each day brings a tide that's new
and don't you know you catch a few

because I got a weapon made out of wood
she say's protection's always good
thing to carry when you're heading to war
I guess it matters what you're fighting for
I've got a weapon made out of love
she says protection's always a must
don't be a victim of your own advice
I guess it matters what you sacrifice

(slinky lead guitar outro)

Jason Aaron Scott is a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles. Scott’s raw vocals and honest lyrics make him an anomaly in the increasingly polished landscape of today’s music industry. With a flair for wit and a straight forward delivery, he has gained comparisons to Elvis Costello and Lou Reed. While recently incarcerated, he experienced all that is wrong with how the court system addresses mental illness. Often turning to music to channel his bipolar disorder, he eventually teamed up with friend and co-producer Edan Frei (B00ty) to produce his upcoming record. His debut album Due Process dropped in 2021.

All of his other widely distributed tracks on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music are individual singles, including "AM ISRAEL CHAI" (2023), "Wave of Descension" (2025), and several 2026 releases like "Weapon Made of Wood", "Ancient Love", and "Undercover Lover".
