Yasuyuki Uesugi makes experimental / noise / minimal soundscapes in a particular way and "Barbarous Punishment" might very well get beneath your skin in uneasy ways

AP Track Review

Sometimes how you arrive at your art, the way in which you create it is, in the end - the middle - and the beginning, as important as the art, the end result itself. The thing you can hold in your hand or hear in the air resonates with it's journey from start to finish, from birth to creation. Yasuyuki Uesugi is a Japanese electronic music producer who creates experimental / noise / minimal soundscape in precise ways and with precise tools. Some might say that he could derive his synthetic sounds within the apps and programs inside the box. The box I speak of being the computer, a simple laptop but Uesugi chooses to create his sounds by way of custom analogue synthesizers made by JMT SYNTH, a Japanese handmade synthesizer maker. All post sounds, forms of compression and touches of mastering are done live. He plays the creation only once while recording live. A one shot recording with no overdubs or additional post. The only thing that is done to the file is to normalize (EQ) it.  Yasuyuki Uesugi does come from a culture where technique and attention to detail, in the crafting all sorts of things in a pure way is revered and there is nothing wrong with that.

The track Barbarous Punishment was created in this way. The undulating blend of notes, growing in a single wave of unease might get under your skin. There is not rhythmic center or beat except in the wave itself. As synthetic it is, there is a primal nature to it, a menacing nature at it's core. The stabs of synth dual and tri-chords almost feel like the movement of this sound animal. You might feel like the prey. You might feel uneasy, itchy or fearful until it slowly subsides.

Yasuyuki Uesugi is based out of Hokkaido, Japan.
