London's New Arcades shine the glitter ball romance of times past on "All I See"

"tear stained cheeks"

The so called new wave of the 80's for many still has a huge emotional musical pull and while some pop culture critics dismiss that artistic decade as compared to the 70's or coalesce the entire shiny period to Mike Score's (Flock of Seagulls) hair, it was a singular fertile period of music. After all, many of the proto punk bands like The Talking Heads or Blondie flourished as did the prog punk bands like The Police and the hybrid bands like the Eurythmics, Depeche Mode and Tears For Fears that fused in electro pop and post rock flavors. The thing that I think of during that period was the sense of romance.

The 80's sounds is back in a big way, I get a lot of outfits that mine or tweak that sound. London boys Dean Canty and Adam Sullivan who go by the moniker New Arcades embrace the romance wave so well that while listening to their latest offering All I See I couldn't help but see Molly Ringwald in some John Hughes teen heartbreak movie. It is a synth filled dreamy affair... like lights cast off a glitter ball at a teen prom full of longing and tear stained cheeks.
