Loveblind's synthwave cinema on the lush "War Planets" from the "Sleeping Visions" album (Official Video)

Loveblind

Loveblind's vast debut album "Sleeping Visions" has been years in the making. A labor of love since 2017, the members of this "international synthwave supergroup" have been building layers of sounds into songs without being in the same room, or building for that matter. Loveblind is the brain child of Texas based Saint Marie Records owner Wyatt Parkins who reached out to Joshua Garman of Crash City Saints (Florida) and then reached out to Germany based vocalist and songwriter Dorian Electrique of Seasurfer for her striking vox. Mikel Wegener (of Seasurfer) was added to the fray for bass and guitarist / drummer Neil Burkdoll of Florida's Whimsical finished out the lineup. While the much anticipated album drops on March (2020), the single War Planets is out for us all to hear.

From the onset, you realize that all the countless hours of phone calls, file sharing, late night texting between all the creatives involved in this project has born luscious fruit. The heavy barrage of synths, beats and charging bass lines feel at once like a collision of 90's Industrial post rock and 80's New Wave with doses of apocalyptic romance (if that make sense). For me Dorian Electrique strays away from her vocal aesthetic with Seasurfer and feels more stylized and androgynous here. I, in fact, flashed on late 70's / 80's Welsh singer Steve Strange (Stephen John Harrington R.I.Pof the proto-romance wave / synth pop outfit Visage when I first heard War Planets. I look so forward to hearing the rest of "Sleeping Visions" but until then I have this, on replay.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:

While “international synthwave supergroup” is enough of a descriptor to turn some heads, Loveblind are all the more impressive for making music since 2017 without ever having been in the same room.
Spearheaded by Saint Marie Records owner Wyatt Parkins, the Texas-based label head initially joined forces with Joshua Garman of Florida’s Crash City Saints and soon tapped Germany-based vocalist and songwriter Dorian Electrique of Seasurfer fame for her strikingly icy vocals. Fellow Seasurfer member Mikel Wegener was brought on for bass and guitarist/drummer Neil Burkdoll of Florida’s Whimsical rounded out the lineup.
After years of incremental recording, file transfers, phone calls, video chats and constant Facebook chats, their upcoming debut album, Sleeping Visions, will be unveiled in March 2020 via Saint Marie.
Opening on the abrasively industrial “War Planets,” Loveblind aim and succeed in creating an album completely alien up against their previous bands. With Electrique’s vocals kept front and center guiding Sleeping Visions, its ten songs aim to interpret dreams with as much lucidity as our waking states, but Visions is far from a half-awake listen. If anything, Loveblind’s debut introduces a band that not only takes its members’ past pedigrees and distance as a challenge, but a superpower.
