Norwegian artist Jon Olav stirs smart captivating dreams with a dance groove on "Stupid" (Official Video)

"I think she fooled me... I am stupid"

Norwegian artist Jon Olav on his track Stupid bounces his lyrical prose over samples from an old cassette player and beats. This is the second track he has released in English. Swirling his own backing vox around his harmonies and pushed ambient and synth tones in interesting ways and the result is a captivating dream with a dance groove. All this from a creative with a cassette machine... yeah.

-Robb Donker Curtius

In a way this song is about the process of confessing to oneself that you’re a bit of coward in some situations, and maybe specifically when it comes to relationships. A process I have been, still am and probably will be going through for some time. It’s not exactly a happy song. But not that sad either really. It’s just stating a fact that isn’t all happy. I guess it’s also about realizing that you have some unrealistic expectations to what a relationship is, and the frustration that comes with it.  - Jon Olav

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:

Production

Same as the last single, I have produced the song myself. With a little help from my friend Preben. We played around in the studio with an old tape cassette machine and found a sample that I fell in love with. I don’t think we ever found out what it was, but it was amazing. From there the song made itself in a way. It was a really fun process and I instantly got a kick from working that way with samples and stuff.

Music video

A Saturday in February I had an idea to take out my camera and film some stuff in my bedroom and then edit it in a slightly quirky way. It’s not the sickest video in the world, but at least it’s me, and I had a lot fun making it. And that’s an important thing for me – having fun.
