Amaka Queenette turns heads and genres into a soulful cinematic splash on "Fleeting, Inconsequential" (Official Video)

"ceiling seems sky high when you are 5"

Fleeting, Inconsequential is a visual 2 song EP that stirs, expands from a more classic R&B indie stance to deep neo soul vibes courtesy of divergent production touches and Amaka Queenette's rich and commanding vocal aesthetic. At only 20 years old, the Nigerian born artist somehow possesses the casual artistic self awareness of someone twice her age.

Song 1 is called Suffocate and on it her intense presence is competing with a seriously fierce base line, trancy production and shifting drum patterns but she rises above it all with a soulful fluid vocal performance easily crooning and sliding into falsettos and back. When dozens of conversations flood in like a busy New York Street of pedestrians it is a surprising turn but for the brief time away, you are waiting to hear Queenette's engaging voice. It comes back turning pages, changing scenes, providing the outro.

Song 2 is Ceilings and is a stark contrast from what proceeded it.  Queenette's vocal presence here feels different too, more mantric and steady, more indie pop / neo soul with jazz pop /rock tones. Her voice is so upfront and lush. When a heavenly guitar comes in, background sensual sounds blend with a kind of cosmic reality. Suddenly it is just guitar and Queenette's voice feeling totally ethereal and bare and to me the song slowly begins shifting to a deep sort of late 70's soul affair. And ending credits role.

Bravo.
