Steve Benjamins' beautiful "Lullabies for Little Crimes" feels like poetry set to music

"between your thoughts two by two"

Lullabies for Little Crimes by Steve Benjamins is beautiful, sometimes askew prose set to music. Sometimes the best lyrics stand alone as well written poetry and that is the case here. Maybe it is because Benjamins found the art, the catharsis of writing songs at only ten years old. Love the melodies and imagery and, in some small ways Benjamins aesthetic (here), reminds me of early Coldplay before they started writing commercial pop songs.

THE FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM - PRESS NOTES:

Steve Benjamins has been writing songs since he was ten years-old and realized he could plug keyboards into computers— but it wasn't until he was 26 that he began releasing music publicly. In the five years since then, his output has been prolific: 4 EPs and 9 singles.

Benjamins had an exciting 2017. His first single of the year, 'Silence' rode a wave of success. After early exposure on Noon Pacific, Silence was featured on Spotify's official Fresh Finds playlist and several official Sony Music playlists. That exposure drew an audience: Silence was listened to over 300,000 times between Spotify, Soundcloud and Facebook.

'Purification Ritual' was the second single of 2017 and built off the momentum of 'Silence'. It was featured on 'Electronica 2018' and 'Indiemono' before racking up over 140,000 plays on Spotify.

Benjamins released Manhood, a new 5-song EP on February 16, 2018.
