The Shadowboxers' sound bending hybrid soul pop of "Float On By"

"that isn't what you have to be"

Float On By by Atlanta based soul / pop outfit The Shadowboxers is a hybrid of a pop sound blending tones and textures that span genres and generations. When I first heard it, I felt a sonic pastiche of 70's soul / R&B / disco to the divergent side of late 80's early 90's sampled based new wave, to current electro pop, neo soul and synthwave. It is from the just released 2020 album entitled "The Slow March of Time Flies" of which Scott Tyler shares:

“We’ve spent a decade in search of our identity, meandering our way through different styles and genres in hopes of landing on something that all three of us can see ourselves in. This is the album where we found it. We locked ourselves in the studio and didn’t come out until all three of us felt like we’d communicated our visions and seen them through. Just us. No one else. No one to hide behind or pass the ball to. We fought, we compromised, we faced issues that had been building up for a decade. And we came out on the other side with The Slow March of Time Flies By, our most honest work to date.”

Check out the classic soul groove driven Highway Roses too. It will beg you to hear another and then another still.

From their start as a backing band for the Indigo Girls to most recently working and touring alongside mentor Justin Timberlake, the trio of Scott Tyler, Matt Lipkins and Adam Hoffman have continuously captivated audiences across the globe with their distinctive flair. Bridging the gap between classic, harmony-driven melodies and contemporary pop-R&B rhythms, TSB now take the reins as songwriters and producers. A pivotal point in a long series of serendipitous moments for the group, TSB have finally settled into their own, their new music representative of the trio’s newfound clarity.

"The falsettos soar, the melody bounces with joyous yearning and the whole package feels familiar, like a song you’ve forgotten but are happy to rediscover." - Time

"After a decade of taking on different stages, from opening on folk-rock duo Indigo Girls' live jaunt to Justin Timberlake's Man of the Woods Tour, The Shadowboxers are no longer straddling the different sounds that have impacted their decade-spanning career." - Billboard

"The Shadowboxers Are Ready, and Not Just Because of Justin Timberlake" - Playboy
