Pandagolff's "good trip" cartoon psyche pop art punk playfulness of "OWL & KOALA"

"The stillness of a reptile and the junk food flavor of Japanese ramen cohabiting in one sound"

"OWL & KOALA" by Japan's lo-fi pop art-punk duo Pandagolff feels part surreal "good trip" psychedelia in a candy coated world, part tender stroll when you are falling in love with another and part Saturday morning cartoon, all the while as life fulfilling as a mind clearing bike ride on deserted streets. It is much needed after watching and hearing the escapades of an utterly insane political leader and his more insane minions scurrying about like little devils.

Pandagolff's artful post punkery or de-construction of such always makes me feel good. Their glossy surreal sound in a language I don't understand serves to serve me in a positive way and while this Candy rose colored vision they create with their music may be counter-positional (as in "the world is not this- it is everything quite opposite of this feeling but they want you to feel like this") opiates of the masses lo-fi high art politico punk or not, it can certainly provide that sort of odd frame to life too.

In any event, in my mind it can be both. "OWL & KOALA" is from their new EP "MEMAMEMA".

Listen, enjoy enjoy and watch your back.

The delicate taste of post punk that would have swallowed psy-ambient in a minimal lo-fi soundscape.

Danceable, though. And pop. What is exactly Pandagolff ?!

Formed in 2019, Pandagolff released a self-produced single called “Facety pet/Mongri” that directly ranked 3rd in the monthly chart of the famous CD/record store mona records in Tokyo. Their song “JC” was then 2nd in the weekly chart of TOWER DOORS (the curation media of TOWER RECORDS).

On February 5, 2020, they release their 1st album “PANDANCE”, an opus that took everyone by surprise. Following the steps of artists like Cibo Matto -the 90’s “shibuya-kei” band from NYC-, or more recently all-female punk band Shonen Knife or CHAI, they serve some new-wave punk with a delicious cheap junk flavor.
