"Lately I've been thinking, it's a sinking feeling"
As I listen to the dark brooding nature of "Sinking Feeling" by the 'ethereal dark pop songstress' Cloud Tangle, the alter ego / solo project of Brisbane based artist, multi-instrumentalist, multi-media-ist, producer Amber Ramsay I can't help but see a distant, thoroughly addictive Netflix series. It is about an upending tragedy that sets forth a serious of events that forever changes a family already torn asunder by an untimely death and those events inflict an insidious emotional cancer on the small town of Baddeck, Nova Scotia. Now granted... granted you may feel something else or see something else but let's just agree that Ramsay as Cloud Tangle, brews up such an engaging and dramatic soundscape here. The particular aspect that blows me away each and every time is the horror pop-esque lo-fi synths that feel like something out of a 1940's or even 1930's Gothic horror film AND the repetitive nature and vocal aesthetic that Ramsay cycles hypnotically in. She creates this oppressive darkness like a lullaby conjured up by the devil himself (no, I don't believe in the devil but devils on earth do exist) while still being painfully, superbly beautiful. Bravo.

Cloud Tangle is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist and producer Amber Ramsay, which combines visual media and composition to evoke a mood equally devastating and beautiful. The project formed in late 2014 and founded its relevance in 2016 through live shows in Brisbane. Stemming from bedroom focused production and expansive instrumentation; the project forms its own unique sound that falls into a dark dream-pop genre with elements of lo-fi and orchestral instrumentation. Ethereal vocals soar above intricate melodies and lush synthesizers, dragging you ever downward into a floating atmosphere. The sonic elements gather with rawness and texture, while lyrical content stems from deep concepts of human emotions.
Cloud Tangle initially formed a following through regularly released, free to download tracks online, which were followed by debut release ‘POCKET' in 2017. Since then, many of these songs have spread to the corners of the internet in many countries around the globe. The ever evolving output of material aims to create the ultimate live delivery of DIY music and visual aesthetic as one. The project continually takes a developing shift in sound, most prominently with the release of debut album 'Kinds of Sadness'. Groundswell followed the albums showcase in 2020 with a live band arrangement of modern orchestral pop and visual projections on the stage of The Tivoli Brisbane.
Ramsay’s production style takes influence from the likes of Thom Yorke, Beach House, James Blake and Warpaint. Being the sole performer, writer and producer is within the hopes to elevate the rise in DIY artists and encourage others to pursue their creative passion independently.
