Uto Paradise and the funky surreal jazz hop tropicalia of "Cheap Drinks"

"qualité négligeable"

Who doesn't love cheap drinks? Maybe, listening to Zurich based Uto Paradise's slippery funk indie "Cheap Drinks", that at time feels like a cagey surreal spy caper, while having the aforementioned cheap drink in some spicy sweet club would be a piece of heaven. Love the subdued but tight drumming courtesy of Maxime Paratte, the funky plucking bass work of Severin Graf and the devilish guitar work by Michel Spahr that at times feels like lounge punk, jazz hop a la tropicalia.

Uto Paradise is a Zurich-based bunch of instrumentalists having a rather hard time ever since trying to get by without a lead singer. It is a well-known fact, tough, at least since Khruangbin, that lead singing became a »qualité négligeable«. Rejoicing over this dictate of the moment and seizing the opportunity, Uto Paradise displays a groovy panoply of instrumental indie-jazz paired with comforting ambient elements.
