Max Foreign Keen and the love on the rocks lo-fi squeeze "My Moriarty!"

"I don't know what's changed, something left that should've stayed"

Max Foreign Keen is the musical project / moniker of, well I suppose, Max Foreign Keen based out of Vancouver, British Columbia. His latest offering "My Moriarty!" is a lo-fi anti-love affair (or maybe love affair) highlighting Keen's torn, tortured vocal wail and acerbic lyrics. Keen's words are a highlight for me, they are the kind of words that you enjoy reading. They read as stories with surprising words, surreal / weird analogies to revel in "your lips are alien spaceships that take us somewhere we're allowed to exist" and unhealthy desires, "Come beat up sidewalk cyclists and scratch that off the bucket list". In fact, "My Moriarty!" is, as you may have guessed, [ a love-on-the rocks song that uses the relationship between Sherlock and Moriarty as a vehicle to showcase the turbulent relationship mentioned in the song] straight from Keen's interesting brain. The aforementioned lo-fi nature adds to the raw appeal. There are, for me, too many sort of Strokes-ian style points but Keen's vocal and lyrical creativity overcome any indie rock conventions that try to get in the way (or my way). In the end, they are forgiven, I absolutely dig this song.

Max Foreign Keen just released the album "The restaurants are empty but we still skip dinner" and, of course that is the title. This is Max Foreign Keen we are talking about.
